Responsibilities High potential position in Technical Accounting with formal and informal leadership duties responsible for performing accounting policy and research functions, focusing on technical accounting pronouncements, emerging issues, transaction and acquisition issue analysis and resolution, industry accounting thought-leadership, and other special projects in support of Corporate and business unit accounting and financial reporting objectives and industry initiatives. Reports To: Manager ¿ Derivatives/Technical Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Performs technical accounting research including evaluation and implementation of emerging financial reporting requirements and accounting standards (including international convergence) and the development, recommendation, and support of industry thought-leadership positions on these emerging issues 2. Determines the appropriate accounting for new transactions and changed conditions as well as the application of existing requirements to complex, unique, material, and challenging business opportunities and transactions as well as transactions involving the exercise of significant judgment 3. Performs and/or reviews aspects of GAAP & SEC external financial reporting in support of Corporate Accounting and Financial Reporting Group 4. Performs other special projects as required, e.g., M&A due diligence, etc 5. Trains to support and rotate into other finance and accounting staff and leadership roles within business units and corporate finance 6. Assists with the supervision and development of accounting staff, including training and direction of less senior professional staff; overseeing and directing the work of interns; and providing direction, training, and technical development to accounting and finance professionals in other corporate staff groups and business units 7. Supports development and advocacy of Company technical positions on industry task forces and in advocating appropriate industry positions on new accounting standards with FASB and its staff Qualifications Job Specifications: Knowledge: ¿ Extensive, deep current knowledge of SEC financial reporting and technical accounting research. ¿ Extensive, deep current knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles. ¿ Experience analyzing complex accounting and financial issues in a public company environment. ¿ Knowledge of corporate accounting and financial policies, internal controls, and compliance requirements. ¿ Knowledge of derivatives, energy trading activities, financial instruments, and risk management practices desirable. ¿ Knowledge of energy industry desirable, but not essential.
